Default Seigniorage - Seignorage - Seigneurage

Hello

It is often good to remind yourself of certain terms
like the word "Seigniorage". The U.S. Mint makes a
profit. However, they still end up paying out for the
production of the 1-cent penney, and 5-cent nickel.

Copper and Zink prices are going up again as the demand
for these metals increase.

---------------------------------------------------

Seigniorage also spelled seignorage or seigneurage, is the
net revenue derived from the issuing of currency.

Seigniorage derived from specie - metal coins - arises from
the difference between the face value of a coin and the cost
of producing, distributing and retiring it from circulation.

Seigniorage derived from notes is more indirect, being the
difference between interest earned on securities acquired
in exchange for bank notes and the costs of producing and
distributing those notes.

Seigniorage is an important source of revenue for some
national banks.

In macroeconomics, seigniorage is regarded as a form of
inflation tax, as paying for government services by issuing
new currency (rather than collecting taxes paid out of the
existing money stock) has the effect of creating a
de facto tax that falls on those who hold the existing
currency, as a result of its effective devaluation through
the introduction of additional money.

Seigniorage also spelled seignorage

The latter is the normal spelling in GB English, but the OED gives the former
as an alternative.

or seigneurage

The Old French version.

The word derives from seigneur: a feudal lord or lord of the manor.

Seignorage also means something claimed by a sovereign or feudal lord as
a prerogative.

*It was well before that. *IIRC, it may have
starred Kirk Douglas or some other macho male lead of that period.)-

I want to say yes, except the plot summary is grossly deficient so I can't
find any reference to the "first night" thing. The keyword list also
suggests that this was the one, but again, it's not conclusive.
