Rowe R80..help needed.

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can assist.. I have an Rowe R80.., I also have the
service manual. In its time it has developed faults that I have been able to
repair, but it got a fault now that has beaten me.
When I make a selection at the numbers/letters bank, wherever the
wiper/selecter is on the selecter card, that is the selection it plays. So,
I push in number, then letter, they are pushed out straight away, and the
selection is played that corresponds to where the wiper was parked from last
time. The motor that turns the wiper does work, if I park the wiper between
numbers then select a selection, it moves to the first available segment,
then plays the incorrect selection.
Any Idea's greatly appreciated!!
