This book titled, Georgian Pistols, The Art and Craft of the Flintlock
Pistols, 1715-1840, by Norman Dixon is in its original dust jacket and in
excellent condition. It is published by George Shumway, York, PA, First
Edition, Copyright 1971. The book is 184 pages and a comprehensive study of
Georgian gunmakers from the evolution of holster pistols and dueling pistols
from the period 1715 to 1840. Chapters include all the famous gunmakers
including Barbar, Griffin, Kuchenreuter, Joseph Heylin, Richards and
Harrison & Thomson, Smith, Turvey, Wilson, Deaktry & Ketland, Manton,
Mortimer, Nock, Gibbs, and more. The book is full of detailed photographs
and sketches showing particular gunmakers styles of both pistol wood and
brass or silver furniture. There is a chapter on gunmakers identifying marks
in photographs and silver hallmarks for the Georgian period. This is an
excellent reference book for anyone collecting early flintlock pistols. The
book measures 8 inches x 10 inches. It is in excellent condition with no
damage to book or dust jacket. There are no torn, loose, or missing pages.
There is also no water damage or stains to book or DJ. The DJ has minor wear
at the edges only.
