Both the punch in the nose and the punch in the mouth are rather
amateurish and pugilistic(IMO). I much prefer the bat across the back of

way, especially with a baseball bat and ample rooom to swing.

Well, as long as you are expanding the tool kit. ;-)

A baseball bat can be turned against the person wielding it, especially
if they are swinging it. You have to be quick enough to grab the end of
the bat headed toward yourself and then *add momentum* in the direction
of the swing. This ends up with the fellow who swung the bat face first
on the floor next to you. All you need do is redirect the energy being
supplied in a way that is useful to yourself.

A more effective way to use the baseball bat is in a jab and uppercut
combination. You put your hands on the bat about a foot apart and jab
to the solar plexus with the butt end and then sweep the end upward to
meet the descending jaw as the attacker is being doubled up.

All in self-defense, of course. It is wrong to initiate violence, but
wise to be prepared to counter it.

The baseball bat (aka `club of pacification') could perhaps be viewed as
the instrument of tranquility rather than as an instrument of hostile
intent..

You must have enjoyed the Al Capone banquet scene in "The Untouchables" movie.

Ouch.
