If there's a stamp somewhere on the cover, that might be a clue, depending on its issuance year. Mette No stamp, but I think you are right . Its on a postcard which would have been issued around 1900. Thanks Alan |

Here is a 1900 registered letter from Anvers to London UK. http://cjoint.com/data/glqmQWYe3V.htm It was mailed from Anvers on 17 April 1900 between 19hrs and 20hrs (7-8 PM). The London cancel confirms the year. http://cjoint.com/data/glqporuu8y.htm Blair |

Date 1900 or 1920 ??
Alan--Little more than a "me too" admittedly, but the cancel is "1900." Around the turn of the century (19th to 20th
turn, that is), Belgium often used only the last two digits of the year in postmarks. Thus the "00" at the bottom represents 1900. On some of the parcel post cancellations, they even cut the number of digits down to 1, such as "-4" for 1904. I think I've even seen just a single digit without even the dash in front, but I can't find an example in my collection, so the memory may be wrong. As Mette has already pointed out, the mail was sorted and canceled between 19:00 and 20:00, or 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. for those of us living in the U.S. Stan "Alan" wrote in message ... This sometimes means the canceller didn't have the part of the date all the way down to where it made contact on the paper -or- was too lazy to do it. All this gets even more confusing during World War I. Provisional cancels abound, especially on parcel post / railroad stamps. Sometimes the time is reversed, include in the year, you name it.
