A (probably) real Mauritius #2 on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5544127245
The full story is explained in the item description. The short version: It appears (to me and to others who have seen it) to be a genuine stamp in particularly bad condition (“100 years in a damp basement” bad). Since there are only 12 known examples, and it catalogues $500,000 in good condition, this is probably the only affordable one you’ll ever see (other than the fairly common fakes). It started at $1 and is bid up to about $200 right now. |
