Dude, you are the kahuna of websurfers at the RCC beach! I love the
use of English worldwide. Calling the spokesman for a charity the
"mouthpiece" is technically correct, perhaps, but not what an American
likes to be dubbed.

As for problem of coins versus banknotes, some context might help.
The Ghanians maintain that coins and bankotes are both legal tenders.
That is the situation in the United States: all federally-issued coins
(1792 forward) and federally-authorized banknotes (1861 forward) are
now recognized as obligations of the USA and are legal tender.

Such is not the case in Canada. Only the obligations of the Bank of
Canada (a crown corporation) are legal tender. Coins come from the
Royal Canadian Mint (also a crown corporation). In Canada, coins are
not legal tender.

I understand from a poster here to RCC that the situation was reversed
in Greece before teh Euro. As products of the Mint -- a government
agency -- coins were legal tender. However, banknotes came from the
Bank of Greece, a private corporation, and so were not legal tender.

Today, in the eurozone, coins and banknotes are both legal tender.
However, no one has to accept more than 50 coins of any denomination.
Further restrictions limit the euros in commemorative coins one must
accept (E100).

The point is that we in America assume that coins and banknotes are
always legal tender. That is not the case worldwide, and the wider
world starts next door in Canada.
