The end of a 25 year search
A large brag. I have finally obtained the last needed volume completing a
set of 21 books that I have been collecting for more than 25 years. The Private Papers of James Boswell from the Collection of Lt. Colonel Ralph Heyward Isham is shown on page 43 of "At Home With Books" written by Estelle Ellis, Caroline Seebohm and Christopher Sykes. It is shown in the chapter about Loren and Frances Rothschild. The edition was privately printed, limited to 570 sets but because of a fire and water damage before sale it is estimated that no more than 300 sets are in existence. I would also like to point out that on Page 42 of At Home With Books, the portrait referred to as that of Samuel Johnson is incorrect and actually that of Alexander Pope (I think). Anyone have as long a history of searching for volumes to complete a set? Ed Schaeffer visit www.jamesboswell.com |
