I've often thought of doing it myself, just never got enough motivation.
With reports of finds coming in though, it does get more tempting....

Glad you did well, and hope you find more!

I heard of a lot of metal detectors but I've never heard of prisms.

I haven't either. I always used a White. Need a new one but the one I have been
looking at is
$600 +/-. That will buy a lot of coins! :-)

prism is white. $300 will get you an amazing machine.

Well I have heard of the DFX, XLT, GMT, MXT,
IDX Pro (which is the one I want)
QTX Pro, Pro XL, Classic 4, Classic 5ID
Beachhunter ID, Surf PI Pro, and the 5900DI Pro.

Do you have a link to a page about the prism?

Thanks! Nice looking machines and looks like they would be very
easy to swing.

we are pleased.

I can't wait until the snow finally goes away so I can go search the
ski slope I checked out a couple times last summer. Found a ton of
jewelery but it was mostly fake costume type stuff. I think my
el-cheapo radio shack detector must not be very good at picking up a
signal from gold. I know there's got to be plenty of cool stuff up
there.

don't count on it. even people who slide on frozen water
know enough to wear the cheap stuff.
look for old homesteads, parks, carny sites...

Look around at the ski rental place and any concession stand. People
put their hands in their pockets for money, money falls out, further
cold weather makes hands shrink and rings slide off fingers easily.
Those are the places I would be searching.

How do you guys handle the leaves when you're looking in the woods?
There's a lot of old "fences" going through the woods around here made
out of piled rocks that I'd like to check out but of course there are
leaves on the ground like 6 inches deep. Is raking the leaves out of the
search area worth the effort or does it not give you much extra
detection depth?
