Default Harry potter, 1st editions, how to check excatly?

Hi,

I think I might have one the of the first editions of the philosopher's
stone, how do I check, does anyone know? Is there a 100% certain way of
knowing by for example, the ISBN?

Thanks to any replies in advance,

Morgan

First edition of the latest "Harry Potter" novel? Would that be
the print run of 1,000,000 copies? Ha, that's bound to be a rarity
in a few years.

No. I said the Philosopher's Stone. That was the very first book, of
which 10,000 copies were printed, they go for about $30,000 in dollars
, (20k in sterling).

Do you know how to confirm a books edition properly?

Al Smith's reply was off the wall, but there is no single litmus test
for identifying the edition of a book. Different publishers have
different systems and even the same publisher may use different systems
in different books. Sometimes it is impossible to establish the edition
with certainty.

In the case of the first Harry Potter book, Bloomsbury gave the date
(1997) and a print line down to 1. Go to
http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchEntry (sort by highest price)
to find descriptions of a number of first and early printings of this
book, with which you can compare your copy.

Nope. I'm good with facetious comments based on a superficial scan
of the post, however.

I don't think you are. I think you made an arse of yourself but don't
have the decency to admit to it.

But his posting *was* admitting it. Or didn't you think about what he
wrote?

(I thought it was a pretty good way of saying "oops!", myself.)
