Default Gold For The Holidays

You've got $250. You want to buy some gold. Where/What would you buy?
Go to an online treasury (US, British, Canadian, French)?
Ebay?
Your neighborhood dealer (coin dealer, I mean...)?
Gold coins?
Credis Suisse bars?
Old coin with some coin-related value but less gold, or new coin with
no collectable-ness (is that a word?) but more gold?
What would you do?

I'd say I'd buy pre-1933 gold coin. If I had the $250 to buy, I would
probably do so because I'd really like to have an old, gold coin like that.

Not enough information. Are you buying for investment, a hedge against inflation, or to
have a gold coin in your collection.

So much would depend on the purpose of the purchase.
