Default Newbie: I just got my first Jukebox - SPS2

Hi Everyone,
I've been into pinball and vintage arcade games for a couple years now.
So naturally sooner or later I'd have to have a jukebox. They've always
fascinated me but the maintenance scared me a little. I must admit I
know virtually nothing about them. I guess much the same as pinball a
couple years ago. Anyway I recently acquired my first juke. It's a 1973
Seeburg SPS2 Matador. Apparently not the most collectible jukebox in
the world but I'm excited and grateful to own it. It's cosmetically
very nice and functioning. I was deciding between the SPS2 and a
working M100A. The M100A was really neat looking but it was a little
rough around the edges and sounded crappy at twice the price.

Although the M100A didn't sound so good it seems my Matador could sound
better. It's not terrible but a little too much bass and an occasional
crackle. New needle? Remote speakers? Where do I find such things?
What's the best way to get the most out of it. Please forgive my lack
of knowledge. Any help is appreciated.

Try http://www.victoryglass.com/ for needles and such.

For used parts try Durfee Coin-op at: http://www.jukeboxparts.com/ I
just got in a couple of parts from him and I couldn't be happier with
his service.

I can't really help with the sound issues because I've only had a
jukebox for a little over a month, and I'm still very much a newbie.

Also, you might want to google for this newsgroup's FAQ. There's a lot
of good information in there that might be of help to you.

Hope this helps.

Zach

Congrats. I bought my first - a STD160 Vogue II about 2 years ago (mine
would not pick up records and the amp was blown). I like this era in the
ease on maintenance. First thing you want to do is track down the manuals
to it (eBay, victoryglass.com) and do some reading on Tony Miller's
website (can't remember off the top of my head, he usually messages
around here - he really, really knows these machines). Also, there's a
yahoo Seeburg collector's group, persons there are great (Tony Miller
strikes again) and very helpful. Thanks to the folks there, mine sounds
and works great.

On to yours. Look for the amplifier and there is a switch for the bass,
usually marked LO/MED/HIGH (I think there's one for the treble too). I
have mine on MED, because it's in a basement. These things can really
push the bass, mine will shake the house. Occasional crackle could be a
number of things, check the needles (mine were junk). Also, get a GOOD
record cleaner. And some 45's just crackle (I have a couple that do it).
See if it's the same record causing it.

Enjoy!

Thanks guys. i appreciate the info. I turned the bass down and it
helped. As for record cleaner, is it like a cd cleaner or spray? That
might help as most of this 45s were stacked together and could probably
benefit from a good cleaning. Where is the best place to get needles?
