Hi Jim - thanks for that. I was hoping to beat that pricing. If thats the
best I could do, I think I would just repair my broken back plates. After all, you dont see them when they are hung ; ) Mike "pins2jim" wrote in message ... Hi Mike
I agree the price seems a little high but why not drop the guy an email letting him know your interest. I doubt this is an easy item to find. It's true you don't see the back but if you want to retain value it might be a good idea to get while the getting is good as they say. I have no interest in this. Just sharing my experience that this stuff is getting harder and harder to find. Good luck! "mike" wrote in message news:1yF0c.446616$na.1090169@attbi_s04... Hi Jim - thanks for that. Hi Jim - actually, I did just that. The first time he ran it with a starting
bid of $37 + shipping and it closed with no bids . I contacted him thinking he might consider direct sale for a bit less. He responded back with the same starting bid price and went on to say "I will honor his price until 2/25" or something like that. Noticed over the weekend he has relisted it with an even higher starting bid. I am not in any hurry; will wait and keep my ears open for a pair of these more reasonably priced. Any reason one couldn't just fabricate one out of an appropriate sized piece of sheet metal and some similar baubles? I'm taking a welding class right now, so everything I see these days can be fixed with some sheet metal and an electrode. -- George Howell "I ride for the same reason dogs stick their head out of car windows" |

Hi George - yes, could be fabbed from sheet metal or wood. Originals
appeared to be milled of varying thickness, and are made of bakelite or phenolic. They are not commonly sold by themseleves. I will probably repair these or fabricate something and just keep a keen eye out for the real deal. Definitely would prefer to have nice undamaged originals. "George Howell" wrote in message ... This guy used fiberglass mesh for strength to repair the inside, and on the outside simply ground away a little bakelite at the cracks, then fill with bondo/sand/bondo/sand/bondo/sand. Granted it took a lot of hours, but after a paint job, you never would have known it was ever broken. What I'm getting at is for a simple piece like the back of a speaker, a near perfect repair should be fairly easy for someone with the skills. Have any freinds in the auto body biz? -- Tony |
