StarArchive charging now
So my suggestion is for those of you contbuting to the site to NOT
contribute. They use your information to now charge. Though I agree having and maintaining a site is costly, they could have opted for a password driven site with a donation link and to join, people would have to make a donation or contribute by giving information. This way those just leaching could not leach and if they did, have to pay at least while those who contribute GOOD working NEW addresses not be punished by paying. Please do not give them anymore information free. If they want the information from you, make them pay in return. This is NOT to dismiss all this site has given for a couple years. They did do ok and that was nice and all... but they are essentially charging for information YOU GAVE them. Stop the insanity of everyone making a buck and don't pay them. I would consider starting a site such as theirs free, but I don't condone people who leach. So maybe I'll come up with something that will be free.... depends. Sounds like work I may not be able to keep up. I started this and have a hundred or so addresses, but have never posted them. Maybe we as a community could consider such and endeavor, while all maintaining it somehow, working together. Opinions? |

They tried the donation route and it did not work. They tried advertisements and it did not work. Making people donate an address to get addresses will just increase the number of bogus addresses on the site. If you do the math, you will see that a one year subscription comes out to about $2.90 per month. That's not that much. It was either charge for access or take the site down. I think there would have been a lot more people ****ed off if the site was taken down. Keith http://www.keithjakubowski.com/autographs |

It does not cost THAT much to have one's own domanin and site. This
is profit motivated if there ever was one. Out of curisotity , do you think people will contribute to the site as before? And there was bogus information on there already. I don't think that'll increase. Most people are honest and I think the level of dishonest ones will be close to the same. But I do agree it does cost to have a site. I've had this one I have now for 4 years or so. It has no pop ups, ads etc. I provide loads of inforamtion free and do it as a hobby. However, when time does come to expand where I have to pay for more storage, then I may have to resort to something. Right now It's probably gonna be removing content. To have a site for years and then to one day just "charge" is like duping the public. Not that I really ever got anything off SA anyway. To me, most of it seems outdated and common sense to find. There were a few that I have used, but at this point, not enough to make me pay. I liked Celebrity addresses (who advertised on here) for a trial anyway. I got to see what they had and submit names for THEM to research. They did find Three for me, but one was an RTS I knew and one is a non signer. I determined it was not enough to keep interested in paying at this point. HOWEVER I would amass a list of ones I want and join for a while after they have found the ones I need. I prefer a pay site that will do research after I've tried my best. Their research is a well placed phone call to agencies or Sag I'd imagine and that's more worth it to me to know the inforamtion is obtained this way and is FRESH. If you guys want, I'll reserch for you and you pay me a dollar for every signature it yeilds ya. LOL Then at least you'll know you're not paying for fake addresses, RTS's and will only pay if you get something... Anyway Keith, sorry they didn't contribute to your site. I have taken a couple images off there (two I think) but you used one I made myself on there so since that took me hours and you didn't tell me you were using it for your site, I considered I paid you that way. So I did not contribute as well. But I am sure you used something off my site free too and I didn't get reimbursed. That's the way sites should be. If everything goes pay, there's no joy left is all I am saying! On 29 Sep 2003 13:08:05 -0500, "Keith A. The Jessica Alba one. The image was actually from Target corporation
and was in part of an article in one of their ad books. I spent about two hours plus removing words from her and the background and other stuff to get a plain usable image. So I figured I'd borrow a couple images and not feel too bad! On 29 Sep 2003 13:35:04 -0500, "Keith A. Jakubowski" wrote: dahoov2 wrote: Anyway Keith, sorry they didn't contribute to your site. Charging itself I dont have a problem with...but what about all those
out there who dont have a credit card??? That screws us up big time... I emailed them about excepting money orders and I am still waiting to hear from them.... The other problem is Sa has crashed my computer twice while trying to access the page...And I know at 15 others who have had the same problem. Keith A.
