Default new currencies

As of January 1, 2005 there are two new currency changes coming into effect.
I suspect this will reflect in new stamp issues for Madagascar and Turkey.

(1) Madagascar

As you know there were 2 currencies. 5 Malagasy Francs(MGF) = 1 Ariary(MGA).
Malagasy Franc codes = MGF 450 and Malagasy Ariary codes = MGA 969

It appears that the plan is to drop the franc and only use the Ariary (MGA).
As of 2005.01.01 - 1796.4 Ariarys (MGA) = $1.00 USD

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

(2) Turkey

On 2005.01.01, the old Turkish Lira was revalued by 1 Million to 1 new Lira.
I suspect that we will now see stamps in Kurus again. (100 Kurus = 1 Lira)
old Lira codes = TRL 792 and new Lira codes = TRY 949
As of 2005.01.01 - 1.36 new Lira (TRY) = $1.00 USD

Thanks for the info Blair.

As a matter of interest, whilst I understand, for example, TRL, what is the
figure 792 that accompanies it?

Best regards, Roger

Roger:

TRL is the ISO Alpha-3 currency code.
792 is the ISO numeric currency code.

Thanks Blair. The former are in almost everyday use (since most of them are
fairly intuitive), but not so the latter, at least in the circles in which I
move.

The Turkey business is very sad. The only time I have ever been a
millionaire is when I visited Turkey as a tourist wher I had several
million (Turkish)pounds to my name!
