Kieth: There are some people in the US and World that must pay more for
everything they purchase because of status. In other words if anyone
found out that they bought a "CHEAP: low priced item they would be
ostrisized for it, One case in particular was this doctors wife who
always wore a specific designer perfume ( which could only be bought
from a known upscale store) then one day a friend of her's wore the
same perfume that was another name but a knockoff of her designer
perfume that was purchased at a discount surplus store for about 5% of
the price from designer store. Well when the Dr's wife found out that
she threw her perfume in the trash and would not ever wear that perfume
again. This is just one isolated case but I know of many. This is why
many buisines people strive for this type customer as they are out
there.
I congratulate the seller of the $21,000 Seeburg C.
I congratulate the seller of the 1970 Hemi Cuda convertible that sold
in A Barrett Jackson Auction for $2 Million dollars that sold for
$4,000 when new.
There are many more also.

I once worked for someone who's networth was close to $1B. He owned a
series of Title Companies and a large chunk of Texas. He like
"Four-in-Hand" horse carriage racing and had a fleet of nice vintage
cars. His ranch had its own zip code. He was without a doubt the
cheapest rich person I've ever met. We actually went out for a
business dinner and when the bill came his response was he never
carried cash or credit cards on him and we had to pay his bill.
Usually his assistant handled such matters, but this assistant didn't
join us for dinner. So we all pitched in to pay his bill. He didn't
pay us back. None-the-less, I have to admit he was fun to work for. I
got to fly to some interesting locations in small corporate jets and
the executive lunch room at the corporate office in Houston was like
eating at a four star restaurant. When it came to giving out bonuses,
he would autograph a piece of paper and give that to his employees.
These people would frame his little 'notes' above their desk.

I have to agree with Keith. There's no point paying above retail just
because you can. Part of the fun of this hobby is the ocassional great
find, like a Wurlitzer 1800 in working condition for $200 in a barn.

Does he wipe his ass with hundred dollar bills because he's a "multi-multi
millionaire"?
I'd like to keep as much of my money as possible!

No that's not a typo. My friend lives in Santa Barbara, Calif and I can
vouch that he did indeed pay $21,000 for his restored Seeburg C. It
also came with a restored wallbox and the juke was loaded with records.
Oh, by the way, my friend is a multi-multi millionaire.- Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -

There's an old story about a guy who goes into a pottery shop and sees what
appear to be two identical vases, one priced at $500.00 and one priced at
$10.00. When the customer asked the potter why they were priced so
differently, the potter replied "some people want to tell their friends that
they bought a $10.00 vase, and some people want to tell their friends that
they bought a $500.00 vase".

I just wonder what would justify a $20k box whose model nicely restored will
routinely bring $3500-7500?

Maybe a mint, untouched, never been powered up, Seeburg C still in the
shipping crate? That would be pretty rare. Assuming it existed and was
confirmed authentic, what would you think that might bring? maybe $10K?

Keith - I still have my Filben Maestro. I'll give you first shot when I
decide to sell her : )
