r-91 sound problem
I have a Rowe r-91 jukebox that seems to be at only half of the sound.
If I turn the volume all the way up, this thing should blow me away, but it doesn't. I am not sure if this is an amp problem that I could fix. If so, what do I need for parts, or where should I start. I have replaced the volume control on the back of the machine already. If anyone can tell me of some common problems with these amps please let me know. THANKS in advance for any help. diverdwn |

Has the jukebox always been this way since you have owned it, or has
this problem occurred just recently. If it has always been this way, odds are that the jukebox speakers have been "tapped down" so that extension speakers can be used. You will just need to modify where your wires are located on the speaker transformer board. Check your manual under setting extension speakers so you know where to set your wires on the speaker transformer board. If you don't have a manual, I think I still have one in my Ebay shop. If not, E-mail me at the address listed below and I'll make a copy available. Thanks for such a fast answer Tom.
I do believe I have the settings right according to the manual, but I will double check again. Do you think it could be anything else like a weak amp or something? Thanks! Chris, my gut feeling is that it is NOT the amplifier. Diminished
volume is not a typical symptom of a bad or failing Rowe electronic amp. Now, if you had distorted sound- particularly out of one channel, excessive hum, or noise not coming from the phono input (such as a high pitched squeal), I'd be more likely to point towards an amp problems- these are the more common symptoms. Try shorting the common terminal to the volume control terminal and see if you get more sound (your new volume control still could be bad?). What is the condition of the cartridge & needle? Condition of speakers? (you might try hooking up extension speakers only (disconnect phono speakers) to see if the problem might be the phono speakers. Also let us know the locations your phono wires are hooked up to on the transformer board... Thomas E-mail: Ebay ID: absolutelygreatgames |

On the terminal strip of the Output Transformer Unit you will see a Pink and
Violet wire. The Pink should be on the E5 terminal of one of the terminal strips. The Violet wire should be on the E5 terminal of the other terminal strip. The Black wire should be on E1. If there are a red and brown wire these do not apply to the cabinet speakers, they are for use with remote wallbox speakers. Check that the volume control is set up for " Stereo " and that the metal jumper plate on the volume control terminal strip is in the correct position for " Stereo " operation ( NOT for Dual CHannel Mono operation ). I would ask the same question as the other poster who responded to your post, has the machine been this way since you acquired it or did all of a sudden something change ? You are correct to assume that when working properly it should blow you away ! Rowe / Ami has some of the best sound systems on the market. "diverdwn" wrote in message oups.com... Guys, I think my problem may be the amp driver board on the left
channel. I did get more volume now that the terminal wires are correct, but nothing out of the left side. I am going to switch the terminals on the boards and see if the sound changes channels. I do know that all of the cabinet speakers are working. By the way, can I put the pink and violet wires on e-6? Thanks again for all of the help! Chris |

Terminals set at E6 is actually the proper setup if no extension
speakers are used. Check the fuses on your driver board. If blown, odds are your output transistors are shot for that channel and will need to be replaced. If this is the case, I'd recommend going ahead and replacing the other channel's output transistors as well. Until you get the parts, you can set the stereo/mono switch to mono. At least that way you will have sound out of all speakers. Thomas E-mail: thomasteeter(at)absolutelygreatgames.com E-bay: absolutelygreatgames |
