Player Squeals

Re my post last week about squealing tapes, I think it's now the player
instead of the tapes; there are just too many of them doing it.
If I back the tape away slightly from the capstan side to the left, it
stops, but when the track changes, it comes back again.
It's a high pitched-dry type of sound.
Now, the question: if I can find where to place some oil, should it be at
the capstan, or at the actual motor?
Either place is difficult to get to, the deck is anchored in such a way that
I cannot figure how to remove it (too many screws.)

The capstan shaft and the motor shaft should both have sufficient
lubrication. A sparing amount is best. Overlubrication will cause
oil to reach the tape, with ill effects.
