Just fixed (and opened!) my first jukebox Saturday. The local Elks Lodge
bought an AMI/Rowe CD51 in great shape. After they moved it up here from
Denver (7200' altitude) it wouldn't do anything but light up and show a
3 on the credit display. Since I have a pinball on location there, I was
in yesterday cleaning, fixing, and emptying the drop on my pin. When I
was done, I asked if anybody had the keys for the juke so I could give
it a look-see. Right off the bat, I could see it was a very well-built
unit and seemed to be in great shape for 11 years old. First thing I
noticed is no +24V LED on the OBC (?) unit. So, I pulled the panels off
and look at the main power supply, no +28VDC LED there. Troubleshooting
guide says unplug units until the power returns. I got lucky and
unplugged the OBC first and there was the +28 back! Unplugging just the
bill stacker let the box play fine so I opened up the stacker. A wire
had pulled off the stacker motor and shorted to ground on the case,
holding the +28VDC down.

I'm a hero there now, they have had the box for almost a month and were
going to haul it back down to Denver for repairs. Now they wanna give me
their bartop trivia game business as well. I may actually make a few
bucks there now as the pinball was just doing so-so.

Thanks go to the contributors to this group. I've lurked and googled
some posts that gave me an idea that Jukes are similar to Vids, Pins,
and Slots, all of which I know well. I'm impressed with the construction
of this AMI juke. It's built like a tank! The switch-mode power supplies
that just switch off when they encounter a dead short, instead of
roasting and requiring PCB repairs, are a great asset for longevity!
