Default Internet & USPS

On Tue, 23 Feb 2016 20:36:50 -0500, "Victor Manta"
sharpened a crayon and wrote:

"... American taxpayers subsidize the USPS at a rate that surpasses the
costs associated with any Congressional mandate. He (Robert Shapiro—former
Treasury undersecretary and chairman - VM) estimates that, all told, the
subsidies and legal monopolies that Congress bestows upon the post office is
worth $18 billion annually. ...

Fish food compared to the other subsidies bestowed upon PRIVATE
'enterprise' and miniscule compared to the 'social programs'.

Postal services should be a function of government and not a 'Profit
Centre' !!!

As always, those with an axe to grind, find ways to make partially
true statements. Shapiro, another pollytickle, among them. The fact
is:

"The direct public subsidy for the Postal Service, which came from
tax revenues, was phased out in 1983. USPS does receive indirect
subsidies from tax revenues, however, which reimburse the Postal
Service for the reduced rates it charges to nonprofit organizations
and others."

Those 'reduced rates' are ORDERED by CONGRESS and the presidunce.

More smokescreen of the manipulations coming from the Executive and
Legislature branches.
