According to eBay, the credit card numbers that were posted
did NOT correspond to the credit cards on file on either eBay
or PayPal. That doesn't mean that they weren't a user's
regular cards, only that the data was likely accumulated phish
attempts. That's why they are *calling* members.

They've called, and the credit card numbers were completely phony. Made
up numbers, not belonging to anyone. The contact information was gotten
when these accounts were taken over through phish. The best site security
in the world isn't going to prevent people from responding to phish if
they are gullible.

That makes more sense than anything, because if those had been "good" CC
numbers, why post them on eBay's boards when you could use them to buy
stuff?

But read AuctionBytes accusations:

When members posted the names of accounts involved, and eBay removed the
AboutMe page, AuctionBytes accuses eBay of "sweeping it under the rug".

IMO, AuctionBytes does nothing but feed paranoia.
