Are these coins very collectable?
 

My Uncle game me these ages ago. He had packaged them in white
cardboard with plastic to protect them.

1. 1927 Canadian nickel marked as fine condition.

2. India Rupee 1947 marked very fine, has a tiger on it.

3. another 1927 nickel

4. Danga Rusia 1897 Empire St. Petersburg Mint CU Nicholas II Marked as
XF condition. Its a really small coin.

5.A big Canadian penny. Has leaves all around the outside of one side
and of course a king on the other. Year is 1919. Looks to be in great
condition to me.


I would sure appreciate any comments or appraisels!

I can't give you any prices but I can say that you do have a start of a world collection
of coins. If you enjoy the coins you have now than it is a start of a collection that you
can build on.

I am currently working on a world crown collection and it is fun.

That 1919 Canadian penny must be a common year!

I only have a few of those large cents and they are all 1919.

The only real info I can offer regarding a value 'marker' is that in my
world collection (which is a shotgun affair-- buying only what appeals to
me, with no organization of any kind), I have a 1942 Indian rupee in
marvelous uncirculated condition-- clear, clean & white-- I paid $25.00 for
it about 10 years ago....

And yes, you do have the seeds of a world collection-- if you like what you
have (I do. I like my large Canadian pennies, too).

world collection
of coins. If you enjoy the coins you have now than it is a start of a
collection that you
can build on.

Well, they are not worth very much on the market, apparently, but if
they do not excite your curiosity, then then are worth even less.
People have this idea that "old coins are valuable." Coins -- or
paintings; or whatever -- selling for millions make headlines. Coins
are made in the millions. Even a "rare" coin considered a "key" by
collectors and selling for an easy few thousand dollars or tens of
thousands any day of the week will have been made in the hundreds of
thousands. Nothing with 100,000 examples is rare.

Former Cleveland Indians pitcher Bob Feller shows up at the Jake and
signs baseballs for $20. This prompted an exchange between two
Clevelanders:
"I am going to France."
"Gee, maybe you can buy a Picasso."
"Sheesh, Picassos are as common as Bob Feller baseballs."

If you value art, or enjoy baseball, the opinions of other people are
not as important as ownership of the material. The same applies to
coins -- and to many other collectibles... which is what makes them
collectible in the first place.

Circulated specimens are common. Coin dealers sell them for 25 cents (US) and
up depending on condition. Specimen graded Fine retails about 50 cents.

Krause's 2002 Standard Catalog of World Coins lists the estimated retail values
at $1.50 (US dollar) for Fine, $2.50 for Very Fine, $5 for Extra-Fine and $10
for uncirculated.

A 1897 Denga (1/2 Kopec) values are listed in Krause's 1801-1900 catalog at 25
cents for Fine, and $5 for uncirculated.

Krause's caatalog lists values at 65 cents for Fine, $1.50 for Extra-fine and
$9 for MS-60 (lowest grade for a uncirculated specimen).
