Dear Fellow 8 Track Enthusiasts

The #2 link of the custom made pressure pads are the same as the ones
that I have on the Ventures 8 Tracks that I won off of Ebay. They do
take up the entire space of the squares where the pressure pads go and
it does not affect sound quality. All 3 of my Ventures 8 Tracks sound
great. Not only that,I have one of these on a Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts
Club Band(Audiopack Capitol white colored shell cart)that I won off of
Ebay recently. The only difference between my Ventures carts and this is
that there is a little piece of Scotch tape across it.Will the Scotch
tape affect overall play quality?I did test it and it sounded good and
it successfully changed to the next program but will the overall be
affected over time?Please inform.Thanks.Sincerely Frank R.Schoonover

The scotch tape won't hurt it- but I have found that it's better to run
the pads without tape on them- they have the added benefit of cleaning
excess loose graphite off the back of the tape- which leads to better
performance. One reason why the Akai 80-81-82 and Pioneer HR-99,100
sometimes don't switch tracks or trigger the auto-stop prematurely when
the sensing foil is not there- reason is those decks have such
sensitive channel switch circuitry (a good thing actually), that the
graphite, being slightly conductive, triggers the channel switch
circuit prematurely. i.e. it will drain the Akai channel switch
capacitor, then when the sensing foil comes along, there's nothing in
the capacitor to trigger the channel switch solenoid. Running the new
pads with no tape on them, cleans the tape actually.

As far as taking up the entire space behind the tape, if you look at
the improved spring pads on some RCA, etc. cars, they have larger pads
on them that extend from the top to bottom of space in cart. Taking up
all that space is a good thing, it gives the pad more stength to hold
against the tape, rather than try to bend over and tilt upwards or
downwards.

thanks for the good press !

ps- your Ventures tapes got the once-over, I believe all the channel
switch splices were replaced, reinforced, and pads replaced too.

You're welcome !

thanks again

thanks much for the good press Frank.

The piece of tape on the pad won't hurt anything. But actually, the
pads without the tape on them, work better- they pick up loose graphite
off the back of the tape and serve to clean the tape over time.

That loose graphite if not removed, will eventually end up on the FRONT
of the tape, and leads to the crackling noises and channels not
switching on some players.

The graphite is slightly conductive and can work havoc on some 8-track
decks' channel switch circuits. I've seen this phenomenon on Akai
80-81-82 decks and Pioneer HR-99, 100's

If you search the archives there is also a detailed explanation of the
pitfalls of the loose graphite buildup on the front of the tape.

ps- your Ventures tapes were given the standard service procedure here-
channel switch splice replaced, and reinforced (foil on both sides so
it will NEVER break- splicing tape is junk- foil tape is stronger- you
can use it to reinforce splices as well as the channel switch itself).

Also the pads were replaced as needed on your tapes.

enjoy !

CAINE May 5th 05 12:23 PM

Frank- the tape on the pad will not affect sound quality. But you
really don't need the tape on it. I prefer to use those pads with no
slippery surface on them.

The original spring type pads also had no slippery surface.

Thanks for the plug- your tapes got the once over- new pads, new
splices, reinforced splices.

Bull****. More misinformation from Noodles.

Once that graphite is gone, it's GONE. Noodles' "aquarium filter
pads" are destructive and do not allow proper tape travel through the
leading guide and across the head.

For those who haven't figured it out, CAINE is Noodles. I've almost
got the information that Frank L. Schoonover is Noodles, also.

Noodles, you're SOOOOO pathetic.

Funny how you pose to be a semi-retard and you do it so well!

By the way...you've been plonked (again) over in 8trackheaven.

More BS from our resident paranoid delusional, Noodles.

Get some Win-Gibs and throw out any "aquarium filter pads" from
Charlie Nudo...they will ruin your cartridges in short order.
