Andrew Jackson coin?

Hello All,

I read this board, but haven't posted in a long time.
My Andrew Jackson web site got a question I can't answer and I was hoping that
one of the experts here might know what my questioner is asking about. Here's
his question:

Dear sir, I have a coin or medallion of andrew jackson on 1 side it has a side
profile in the center of the coin, with words" Andrew Jackson President of the
United States" circling the outside wth the date "A.D. 1829" at the bottom, On
the other side it has the words"Peace and Friendship" with two hands clasped
in a handshake in the center and what appears to be a tomohawk and peace pipe
crossing each other at the top of the coin. I am curious about this item can u
help.

Can anyone help us out?
Thanx
ROB

Sounds like a political token, and it could be fairly valuable, say $300-400.
Does it appear to be brass ? Is there an eagle with arrows ?

This could be an example of the 'Presidential' series of medals produced by
the US Mint for public sale. Or, it could be the 'Indian Peace' medal for
Jackson's presidency. What is needed to determine this is the following:

What is the metallic content (Bronze/Copper? Silver?)?

What is the size?

What is the condition?

If it is large, silver and in rather poor condition, it could be an original
Indian Peace medal from the Jacksonian era and valued at ...A LOT!!!!

If it is smaller, bronze or copper, and in 'excellent' condition, it
probably is a modern 'Presidential' series medal and valued at...not much.
These medals are still available from the Mint at nominal cost.

In any event, ask the same question in rec.collecting coins and you may get
a more comprehensive answer.

I read r.c.c and this newsgroup everyday, which in and of itself doesn't
make me an expert, however, I replied to this question here because it was
convenient for me to do so.

More likely is that it is one of the medals from the
Shell Oil Co. "Mr. President" series issued back in the
1960's. They are quite common and usually retail for
around a quater or so ... if I get time tonight I'll
try to find one in my exonumia junkbox, shoot a pitcher,
upload it to to my website and post a link here ...
