Euro Zone - pre Euro era stamps valid for postage?

Greetings friends:

I know that France still accepts stamps denominated in Francs and Centimes to pay for postage.

Does this also apply in all or in specific Euro Zone countries?

In such cases, is there an expiry date for using such stamps?

Thank You for any assistance.

Blair

Blair,

Each country seems to have its own regulations. Below I list three examples,
found on the Web:

- British stamps issued since 1971 and the QE2 £1 stamps issued before that
are all valid.

- All stamps issued by Belgium after 1963 remain valid, even if they are
still denominated in franks.

- In the Czech republic the stamps are valid from 1993 till now.

Thank You for the information, Victor.

Would anyone particularly know
about the stamps of Germany and Austria?

Germany and Austria: since 2002, July 1 Euro-stamps only.

The Netherlands: stamps after 1977 in Gulden can still be used.

After july the 1. 2002, the stamps of Germany (DM) and Austria
(Schilling) were not valid any more.
In Germany exchange into Euro-stamps at a post office was possible up to
the end of September.

In Austria, the exchange at post offices stopped at July the 1.-
afterwards the exchange was only possible at the General Post-office -
but you had to pay a fee.

by the way - GB is not part of the Euro-zone. Stamps are still valid,
since decimal.
