Uganda Issued New 1,000 Shillings Banknotes
Bank of Uganda is to release new bank notes of Shs1,000 denomination
with a new numbering format beginning September 1, 2009. Every bank note in Uganda has a unique numbering printed horizontally and vertically on the front of the bank note. Bank of Uganda started issuing Shs1,000 bank notes in 1991. Each note carries a unique numbering of alphabetical letters from A to Z, which according to the BoU have all been used up therefore necessitating a new numbering format. The numbering is not repeated. Mr Otim explained that the only difference is the numbering format. The old bank notes of Shs1,000 consisted of two letters and figures of six digits making eight characters but in the new bank notes, BoU has used only one letter and figures of seven digits bringing the characters to eight. http://tomchao.com/archive.html |
