A benchmark to observe? by
Amistad
Howdy, friends!
I recently met a fellow who is really (and I do mean REALLY) into metal
detecting. I haven't yet seen them, but he tells me that he has found lots
of coins, including one find of 19 Morgan dollars out in west Texas a couple
years ago. (Now, THAT would be an exciting discovery,...

Can't believe it! I didn't expect to get these for another 2 months,

in Denver at the ANA when they went on sale and didn't want to get
locked out so I
ordered them online at the USMint booth at the show. Wonder if that had
anything to do
with getting it so quickly. Wonder...

My recent "identify this coin" story by
[email protected]
Hi everyone,
I had an interesting experience recently with identifying some coins.
My friend Heidi, who knows I collect coins, said her (late) grandfather
had brought back various old, maybe ancient, coins from his foreign
travels and asked if I might be able to identify them. I said I would
be...

The best coin you found in circulation? by
L.W.
I liked reading the replies to the thread about your lowest mintage coins,
so I thought I'd start a similar one.
What is the best coin you've found in circulation, including roll searches?
Mine is and 1864 1c in EF found in a roll search years ago. I think it's the
copper-nickel variety, though...

Doubled Dies the Norm? by
Bruce Remick
Just curious as to what should be made of the growing glut of doubled
die state quarter varieties, and now involving some of the 2005 Jefferson
nickels as well. To me it conjures up images of planchets rattling around
out of control in the coin presses. I thought it was supposed to be unusual...

Mythbusters (11/01/06) by
[email protected]
They used some Silver Dollars to see if an 1800's period gun could
shoot a hole through one ;-( Forgot the two types they used but
both just caved the coin in, turning into a "toy shield". They
whipped out a 357 and that did the trick LOL. Kari said they were
using 1879 coins (Morgans) but...
