quarter by
[email protected]
i just saw a virgin islands quarter. it is my favorite and actually the only
state quarter design i truly like. it has a sparseness and economy of design
that works well. uncluttered, unfettered by background noise and really
representative of that part of the world, it looks like the where it's...

Dollar Coins in Normal Commerce by
GFH
Are dollar coins being used in normal commerce? I have not seen even
one. My bank does not have any. The local post office has never seen
one. I live near Charlottesville, VA.
Does anyone know of a location where these coins are in common use?

My order for these silver tokens arrived with me this morning and
included an `error' example.
I'm delighted to report that they are brilliant!! Well done Kyle. :-)
RCC's (and no doubt usenet's) very first `hammered' token. You've done
us proud!

Conch Republic coin? by
Erik McCrea
Dear Group,
I am seeking one of the Conch Republic coins (Key West, FL; they
seceded from the U.S. in 1982); there is one that says "Conch Republic
Forever" and "In Conchs We Trust" on the coin. And there is another
charnming one that is made to look like a shipwreck-style coin. Does
anyone in...

CONTEST TIME !, get out your redbooks by
Dan769
Chrysta's contest made me think that it is time I had one of my own. This one
is gonna take a little effort on your part. The contest is to guess what coin
in my collection has the lowest mintage. To narrow down the list from thousands,
I have whittled it down to 105 coins to choose from. Here are...

Collecting Silver Coin vs. Collecting Silver Bullion? by
Jay Quinn
Is there a better reason to collect certain silver coins opposed to
silver bullion if your interested chiefly in the weight/$ aspect, and
not so much the metal weight and other factors that coin can bring to
the table in value?
IOW's, what about 1oz Sivler Eagles vs 1oz Silver Bullion...

Auction sites other than eBay by
Bill Krummel
Ok. EBay is where I sell virtually all my coins. It is where I buy most of
the coins I buy. Other than eBay, I have bought and sold on Andy's UrBid,
mainly because I like Andy and want to contribute, .....well, that's not
quite true, I have picked up a few bargains and a number of...

Is there a way to remove the copper from a zinc penny?? by
The Space Boss
Is there any way to "melt" the copper off of a zinc penny, so that you
just have a regular penny made out of zinc?? I know you can file the
copper off, etc., but I'm talking about removing the copper in such a
way that the coin doesn't look crappy that it looks like a nice coin
that was minted that...

Silver and gold WAY up today. Silver over $29 per oz, gold close to
$1400 per oz. Sure glad I am still sitting on a chunk of silver.

What did they do before coins? by
Serenus Zeitblom
I have been reading about the ancient city of Ur,
and I was thinking about the numerous shops that
apparently were all over the place. Normally we
think of barter as what happened before coins,
but how could a *shop* operate that way? I mean,
suppose I zip down to the local Ur mom-and-pop
store and...

$1,000 Bag of Silver by
QuantrelRaiders
I'd like to buy a $1,000 face value bag of silver, especially Kennedy halves.
Some questions.
What is the total weight of the bag?
What is the total weight in ounces of silver in the bag?
At $4.84 per ounce of silver, what should I pay for a $1,000 face-value bag of
silver?
