I have been advised that Royal Mail have had so many complaints about Posties using ball point pens to cancel stamps which had 'skipped' the machine cancellers, thus destroying them from a collectors point of view that they have stopped this practice. Obviously R.M. must protect its revenue so...

My online dealer has two new Marianne booklets listed. Unfortunately he only shows the cover. I would like to know if these are new stamps or just new booklet covers. Thanks, Ralphal, the OLD one

(RCSD) was..online translation tool. by rodney
OFFLINE translation tool, perhaps they could build one with a philatelic bent? Run this over the text in the German or Belgian catalogue they could call it the "Philatelic Phantasmagoria Phonetica" http://cjoint.com/data/mcj6BpATVd.htm

measuring stamps by news.knology.net
Lets say the desc. says 21x36mm for the stamp "size". Do you measure from outside of perf to the outsideof perf on the opposite side of stamp? Or do you measure the printed part of the stamp? Some stamps have no border so how do you measure it?

Pro-Montepio stamps by Tony Vella
This question is cross-posted to soc.culture.spain. I found a couple of stamps with Pro-Montepio on them and also a similar bunch available on ebay.com and ebay.es from what it appears that they are of no great value. Since they have 'sin valor postal' on them I presume they are charity stamps...

Hi - I have two sheets of the 25th anniversary of the Panama Canal. Both have wide selvedge along the top and left edges, and both have no selvedge at all along the right and bottom. Is it possible that the press sheet really didn't have a selvedge strip to cut into sheets and the stamp edges...
