How (or where) to find how many printings a book went through? by
Lily
Hello all, simple and to the point question: How (or where) to find
how many printings a book went through? Are there any websites with
this information? Perhaps the publisher's? Though I couldn't find
anything. I'm asking mostly out of curiosity as I've always wondered
about certain books I have....

Britspeak redux squared by
Lin Digs Books
Yes, it's me again. If this is getting tedious, just don't answer and
I'll get the idea. However, if anyone wishes to enlighten me, I'll be
grateful.
Reading Michael Innes, a Sir John Appleby mystery set in a University
which is very Oxford-Cambridge-like. The President of one college has
been...

Brit. Culturespeak Redux by
Lin Digs Books
You folks were so helpful last time, I thought I'd try you with
another one. I get the gist but I don't get the specific. Here goes:
There's Buckley's chance of his being noticed, unless he did something
to make himself conspicuous. [The Corpse at the Haworth Tandoori by
Robert Barnard)

Lit. Britspeak #3 by
Lin Digs Books
So I reading yet another British mystery (I can just hear y'all
saying, doesn't she read ANYthing else?!), and have another bit of
obscurity (to me) to present for elucidation (you see, I've at least
read a dictionary).
Start quote:
Cop #1: And then there was that bit about the stained glass...

mercury astronaut collection by

I recently acquired a 1st printing trade of The Right Stuff by Tom
Wolfe, Farrar 1979, signed by the author very boldly, in black marker
on the first (blue) front end page ... nice autograph!
It got me thinking about a collection of Mercury astronaut books; good
firsts and/or firsts/signed on the...

The Sea Wolf Jack London by
Linda Donnelly
I was at an estate sale today and came across a copy of The Sea Wolf by Jack London. I am new at book collecting , so please pardon my ignorance.
I am having trouble figuring out what it is worth in the market. The copyright says 1903, 1904 and it is followed by "Published October 1904, ...

Book club edition of Da Vinci Code by
Linda Walton
I ordered The Da Vinci Code from Doubleday Book Club. The edition I received
states that it is a first printing (April 2003) and has the same ISBN no. as
the "first printings" selling on the internet for almost $200 US.
Considering I am under the impression that Book Club editions aren't
valuable,...

compact fluorescent lamps and books by
[email protected]
Hello,
I realize that I might be paranoid for worrying about this. I'm
concerned about exposing my books to light from compact fluorescent
bulbs for any length of time (i.e. several hours a day). I know that
the longer fluorescent tubes are fairly bad for books, and that
Brodart sells UV...

Gragborn - Howe Connection? by
Linoleum Blownapart
Does anyone know what connection there was between Edwin Grabhorn of
Grabhorn Press and a Miss Mary Howe? Several of my books were signed from
Grabhorn to Howe and it sounds like he knew her very well.

Best Way To Sell Old Books by
Linoleum Blownapart
I live in a small town. I have some Grabhorn Press books (1930's) I'm trying
to get rid of on ebay. I looked up similar books at Abe Books and priced
them below those prices, for the most part. There doesn't seem to be much
interest, though. I'm wondering if I should have, perhaps, went through...

Appraising my book collection by
LiRM
Greetings,
I have a small collection of signed, first edition books that I've put
together over the years.
I started a google search to try and find some web sites where I could
check the price of what the books might be worth, but was inundated
with hundreds of links.
I started going through...

Book Signing Events by

Is anyone aware of a web site that offers a comprehensive list of what
author's may be signing at what locations?
In what I can only describe as a tragedy, here in South Florida, there
used to be a few book stores that had authors come in to do readings,
signings, etc. With the exception of Books...

Removing eraser "pink" and getting rid of pen markings by
LiRM
I have a book that I wanted to clean up a bit and erase some ink
(standard ball point pen) written down the spine. Being a tad too
eager, I tried an eraser (standard pencil type) and although it took
off some of the ink, I now have the remnants of the pinkish eraser
color.
Any ideas on how to...
