Ain't history great by
Reid Goldsborough
Thought I'd share some more of what I've been uncovering about a
recent coin purchase, some history that I at least find incredibly
compelling, history that goes well beyond this one coin and is a bit
controversial too.
First, here's the coin again, the third and last one on this...

they are satisfied ,thanks.

I'm going to guess that the second one...

Bye Bye Lincoln Cent! by
Fred
Well, I just picked up the new issue of CoinAGE and in an article they gave
a sienorage report for 2003.
The penny is now costing the Mint 9/10's of a cent to produce. I suppose it
won't be long until they change the cent to make it more profitable to
produce(like making it from alunimun)or...

Terrorism and Counterfeits by
Michael E. Marotta
No multinational corporation suffers a loss when a few thousand fake
ancients or fake Trade Dollars are run off and sold a few hundred at a
time here or there. The key problem with criminality is that it
throws all criminals together. Cigarettes are heavily taxed in one
place; pork is illegal in...

$500 (I wrote to the Treasury Secretary again) by
Malanutt 4 Life
I wrote Secretary Snow on the issue of redesigning the $1, $2, $5, and $10
bills (since there hasn't been a decission to redesign the $5 and $10 bills to
conform the NexGen series yet) and redesigning and reissuing the $500 bill. I
will probably just get a form letter, but I figured I would try...

Ebay must stop the frauds or die by
Frank Provasek
This post seems to be hung up in my out box, so I am repeating it.
Despite dozens of collectors spending hours of their time
reporting fake coins to ebay, ebay does nothing. Many people are
being cheated and when they try and have the coin authenticated or
resell it, they believe that the...

Golden Dollar supply question by
Fred Shecter
I'm just curious. If you get GDs from the bank, please tell us what city/state and if you
are getting "commingled" (SBA/GD) or pure GDs. If you can take a stab at the ratio of SBAs
to GDs go for it and if you know what kinds of rolls you get (hand rolled, machine rolled
(paper), machine rolled...

Plug for Yahoo Seller by
Keith Fletcher
I've never made a recommendation like this before, but I'd like to put in a
plug for Yahoo seller J40D60. She is a wonderful seller of RAW coins but,
being on Yahoo, she doesn't get the kind of bidding activity she deserves.
I picked this little beauty up from...

#@$%! by
The Fausts
My entire coin collection was stolen yesterday! Someone just kicked in the
front door (in clear line of sight of several other houses) in broad
daylight and had a little shopping spree in my house. Things could have been
worse since they avoided anything bulky or heavy, but they found...

Teledyne Wah Chang tokens/tags by

I'm looking for tokens or tags marked "Teledyne Wah Chang Albany."
These are usually circular or hexagonal, may be holed near the edge,
and are either grey or anodized in various colors. They are made out
of unusual metals such as zirconium or tungsten (marked on token). A
picture of one, with...

Chevy Chase Bank to begin charging coin exchange fees by
[email protected]
Today was the first time I saw Chevy Chase Bank's fee posting
for use of their coin exchange machine, starting 1/1/2008:
- $0.01 to $5.00: free
- $5.00 to $100.00: $3
- over $100.00: 10%
I ran the numbers, and the mid-tier breaks even with CoinStar at
$33.70. The upper-tier
is simply highway...

Cameron Kiefer committed suicide by

Another truly sad day for the coin world
Cameron Kiefer committed suicide right before Christmas.
He was a young numistist of the year and had a bright future in the coin
industry. He was a grader at ICG until the Mark Yafee scandal drove the
parent company National Gold Exchange into...

Proper Pronunciation by

Proper Pronunciation
I read an article in the Numismatic News about the pronunciation of the
name Saint-Gaudens.
That started me thinking. I have never heard anyone utter the name
Gobrecht.
