"Another Contest" Clew. by
Coin Saver
Nobody yet has guessed the "announcement", so, here's a clew. (Note: in
previous contests, the clews I've given were too easy, so I'm going to be
really vague this time).
The Clew:
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
whiffenpoof
```````````````````````````
The Original Proposition:
I was about to post an...
Proper Pronunciation by
Adolphe Menjou
Proper Pronunciation
I read an article in the Numismatic News about the pronunciation of the
name Saint-Gaudens.
That started me thinking. I have never heard anyone utter the name
Gobrecht.
What to do with Kennedy half dollars? by
Barney
I bought a roll of Kennedy halfs for spending purposes only. What I ended
up getting was about half of them from 1967 and 1968. Now I don't know
what to do with them.
I know I could use them at face value, but I also know they are 40%
silver...meaning (from what I've read;) the value of...
Believe it or not... by
Mister Ed
Today I tried to pay for a purchase at my local Walmart with 5
circulated Sac dollars, and the cashier wouldn't take them, saying they
weren't "US money", and I told her that they were, so we got the
Assistant Manager, and she looked at them, and agreed with the cashier
and wouldn't accept them;...
Frank and Reid quoted in COINage article on eBay fakes by
Frank Provasek
Reid Goldsborough and I, along with Barry Stuppler and several other
collectors and dealers, were quoted in an excellent three-page article
on Ebay fakes on page 46 of the July 2009 issue of COINage. In
addition, I supplied six photos to COINage, including two used on the
cover, of unmarked fakes...
Presidential Dollars might not increase dollar coin use by
Paul Anderson
Here's an article that includes quotes from a Federal Reserve official:
&NewsRubrique=2
We know that putting portraits of dead presidents on the dollar coin
will not noticeably increase its use in everyday commerce. Only...
US "Copper" Quarter 1993 Minting error by
Matthew
I have a quarter that I got some years ago after buying
something...that's not important the thing is that the quarter
appears to be made entirely of copper. originally I kept it because it
looked so unusual but recently I have been turned on to the fact that
it may be worth some nice money I was...
WTC Commems, huh? by
Nick Charles
Boy! ... Talk about the shameless exploitation of staged tragedies,
this is the first time I've ever run across an example quite like
this!
No, it isn't the Coin Vault "proudly" offering pieces of the Binion
hoard this time, it's another home shopping network doing the same
thing with coins sifted...
Coins with hole in middle? by
Lorne
I'm sifting through my father in law's coin collection and now liquidating
the European coins.
I have 3 coins with a hole in the middle. They are French, I think - one
side has "Liberte Egalite Fraternite" at the top, "25" on one side of the
hole and "Cmes" on the other side. The obverse has a...
Coin returns and a question about toning by
Bill Krummel
Today, I am having the fourth coin returned to me from an eBay auction sale.
This Maine commemorative half;
I honestly don't begrudge the buyer at all. I failed to mention in my
verbal description the surface marks on each side of the...
A coin I like but you probably won't by
Bill Krummel
Toned coins aren't for everyone. Those who avoid toned coins occasionally
comment that they like this or that coin, but it is an exception. Those
who claim to like toned coins will often draw a line between attractively
toned and ugly toned, accepting the former, rejecting the latter. ...
Are US denominations efficient? by
John Charles Wilson
While the US and Canadian coin denominations are 1, 5, 10, 25, 50
cents and 1 dollar (and 2 dollars in Canada), I notice most other
industrialized countries use 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents, pence, etc. and
1 and 2 dollars, pounds, euros, etc.
My question is: which system is more efficent in...
1982 Pennies by
Could anyone please explain how to distinguish the the various 1982
pennies? I am using the H.E. Harris collection folder, which explains
that the composition changed from 95% copper & 5% zinc to 97.5% zinc &
2.5% & copper. Then there are 7 slots, 4 for the Philadelphia mint and
3 for the Denver...
