False Istrian overprints by
Tony Clayton[_2_]
I have just received an Ebay lot of stamps of the
Yugoslav Occupation of Istria which on close examination
are all clearly fakes.
Not only are most postmarked almost five years before they
were issued, but the overprints themselves give grave cause for doubt.
One had a denomination which does...

Italian 100 lire of 1946 by
Tony Clayton[_2_]
It is not commonly known that the distinctive 100 lire of the post-war
Democratica definitive issue has two plates, which can readily be distinguished
by the presence or absence of a notch near the top of the right margin.
This stamp is particularly interesting as there are no less than 73...

France 1864 cover to Lisbon by
Stan
A friend and I are puzzling over a pair of covers from France to
Portugal in the early 1860s. Maury lists a 60 centimes rate to
Portugal on a “batiment de commerce,” which I interpret to be a tramp
steamer. But these covers are franked with only 20 centimes.
One of the covers is shown at:...

Whatever happened to peelable stamp hinges? by
Colin McKenzie
A few weeks ago, I finished my last pack of Stangib stamp hinges,
vintage probably mid-80s.
So I bought some new ones. They looked different from the old ones,
but I didn't worry about that - technology advances over time. All
went well, until I put a stamp in the wrong place and had to remove
it....

Hello! It's come to my attention that SG has reprinted the 2 foriegn
volumes of the New Ideal Albums into 3 volumes with printing on one

comments? Thanks, Tim

Meta-question by
Don Levey
Given the rather low traffic in the group, I've not had many cues from
which to pick up the customs of the groups, so I'll ask:
Is it appropriate to ask specific questions about certain stamps, or is
this a more general forum?

KenK
Anyone know of any active interesting email discussion (not marketing)
lists for a general collector? Like the material posted here but more of
it?
TIA

Charter in WordPerfect or Word by
Stan
Jon Bell kindly posted the RCSD and RCSM charters recently. I did a
copy-and-paste to put them into WordPerfect format, which can also be
saved as Word. If any users would like either one, please send me an
e-mail and I'll send the file along.
Why did I go to the trouble? It's easier to search...

New stamp issuing territories by
rein
Victor,
the Hugo van Reyen Agency on the Channel Islands were responsible for
their stamp issueing facilities long ago! Nothing changes, just the number
of stamps per year may increase! They could not really be considered
postage stamps at all for some 15-20 years already. So why bother...

Collection software by
Don Levey
It occurred to me that I might want to consider some sort of software
solution to keeping track of my collection. I have seen a few packages
out there ranging from $20 to $300, but:
1) Being relatively new to this,
2) Being a Linux user, and
3) Being a glutton for punishment,
I thought I might...

Sassone 128a by
Stan
Sassone lists the 25 centisimi of the 1922 Mazzini issue as existing
with a deformed E in Cent. (Sassone 128a, Scott 140.) For those
Sassone users amongst us, is the deformation shown at:
http://cjoint.com/?jvtWMpuc1Z
what Sassone refers to?
Ignore the mistake in the file name of the image. ...
