Found a hidden Redfield by

Just won this one...

Love Heritage's description: "1878-CC $1 Morgan Raw GD0". The care and
attention that they give to their consignment is just stunning. See
if you can find the other Redfield that they have listed that I'm...

Doing a bit of reminiscing... by
Amistad
The world of numismatics has been sort of "back burner" stuff for me for a
while. But I can sense the interest being quickened within me once again.
As I sit here and ponder over the material that I enjoy collecting, I've
asked myself this question -- "What is it within the realm of numismatics...

Greatest trade coin of all time by
Reid Goldsborough
Doing some research on pieces of eight, from cobs through pillar
dollars to busts, and it strikes me that it has very good claims to
being the greatest trade coin of all time. Curiously, I don't believe
I've seen it referred to that way, in print or online.
The first great trade coin was the...

Yes, she is a blond by
Duh_OZ
Neighbor told me she had a bag of coins and it broke as she was
leaving having quite a few drop through the slats in her back yard
deck. She wanted to have me use my metal detector to get them and I
had to keep asking why when the coins would just be sitting on the
dirt underneath the deck. ...

Larger To Smaller Banknote Change? by
Coffee's For Closers
Recently, I was buying a New Zealand Ten Shilling note. The Cook
version, from 1940 onwards. It was comfortably within my budget.
But, I mentioned the earlier version of the Ten Shilling, with
another design, from 1934-40. And, my dealer's assistant pulled
one out. It was, shall we say,...

Passing along an "Ike" by
Amistad
I was helping a lady in my place of employment a few days ago. She had two
girls with her, apparently her daughters. I suspect they were something
like 8 and 10 years of age. I didn't hear the previous context when they
walked up to me, but as they came closer to me, the youngest girl said,...

2008 silver proof sets by
John Mazor
Back on July 29 I got a notice from the Mint that my subscription 2008 silver proof set would ship within 4 weeks. It's been 5 weeks now. IIRC, in the past it only took 2-3 weeks after the automated notice. With all the Mint's problems meeting demand for silver, has anyone experienced a similar...

"Famous Dogs" Commemorative Half Dollar Series by
[email protected]
I know I'll only be bitched at, by people by claiming that dogs
deserve to be honored for their service to man, but since people say
that the half dollar is of so minimal importance, I was thinking I
should propose a series of "Famous Dog" half dollar coins.
The "Famous Dog" half dollar series...

Hurricane Gustav And The New Orleans U.S. Mint Building by
Arizona Coin Collector
Hello
The state of Louisiana and the Federal Government
spent a lot of money to restore the old New Orleans
U.S. Mint building after being trashed out by
Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Now it looks like Hurricane Gustav (and maybe tropical
storm Hanna), may again trash out New Orleans and the
old...

Error Proof Set? by
LRC-Tom
A friend of mine just bought a 1961 Proof Set, in cellophane packaging
that appears fully original. The set contains two nickels and no
quarter. He didn't pay a premium..in fact he bought it pretty cheap,
as a "damaged set."
I don't recall ever seeing this kind of thing. I'm finding...

Cents found in the till... by
MJKolodziej
Last night I found a '55 and a '56. I gave the 5'6 away to the employee who
could guess the year the closest. The kid guessed '55. I kept the '55 to
look at better.
Today, counting the till at 4:00 found a 1908 small cent. It's in better
shape than the '55! Not a bad holiday weekend, only 2...
