Hi folks,

I decided it's time to clean out the attic and I came across a case full
of 8-tracks that I had forgotten about. Have approx 200 circa 1970
through the mid to early 80's. Now, the attic while dry, was prone to
getting very warm. What's the chances that any of them are worth
fooling with? I'd like to rip them to CD, but I suspect that 1) they're
all worthless and 2) I'd need a better play than I have (not even sure
of the brand). Any of you care to comment?

TIA!

Jeff

Tounge-in-cheek reply: Yes, they're all worthless. Mail them to me right
away!

Serious reply: 8-track tapes need to be maintained. See the 8trackheaven
website for maintenance tips. If you can't or won't invest the time for
maintenance, don't bother with the tapes; you could ruin them.
Also, player quality varies widely. The best players rival reel-to-reels; the
worst are AM radio-soundalike low-fi tape munchers.
You could probably sell the tapes here, but you would need to list artists &
titles. Common tapes have little market value. later, ron

Thanks Ron, I'm checking the web site you mentioned. I just did not
realize how much was still goin on in the 8-track world. Maybe it's
time to clean up my player and check out some of the relics I have!
Likley that I will sell the lot as time is a consideration, but it may
be a fun diversion for this coming winter.

All it would take is someone to release a "new" 8-track player, with
auto tracking like a VHS deck, and a big mother of an AC motor- it
would turn the tracking world on its head, and the mfr. would make
millions. With the demand evident on ebay, a $200 "new" deck would go
over big no problem.

I'd buy one.

Then there's the quad possibilities.
